Individuals with disabilities often face many struggles. One of the biggest challenges people with disabilities face is finding a job. Many disabled individuals have a hard time working a full-time or even a part-time job, and those that are able to work, often have a difficult time finding work.
These difficulties can be caused by discrimination and other factors. Disabled people continue to struggle finding work, but a new report shows that more people with disabilities are working than ever before.
There are more disabled individuals working as federal workers in the U.S., and the number of disabled workers continues to increase, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. They reported that the federal government added more than 16,000 employees with disabilities in 2012. This increase has led to the highest number of workers with disabilities being employed by the government during the last 32 years.
The increase in federal workers with disabilities could be due to President Obama issuing an executive order for more federal workers with disabilities to be hired. He specifically called for 100,000 new federal workers with disabilities to be hired by 2015.
The increase in disabled workers is good news, but there is a still a long way to go to reach the goal of adding 100,000 workers. The report said that since 2010, roughly 54,000 individuals with disabilities have been hired by the federal government.
Disabled individuals can have a difficult time paying for monthly expenses, especially for individuals who cannot work due to their disability. Individuals who cannot work should look into applying for Social Security Disability benefits that can help pay for monthly expenses.
