When Georgia residents are in need of help, it is important for them to take stock of all of the resources that may be available. Multiple resources may exist, with each providing a different means of assistance.
This is certainly the case when it comes to veterans benefits. Veterans may be able to obtain benefits through the Veterans Administration for injuries they suffered while serving overseas. These are not the only benefits veterans may be eligible for, however, as benefits may also be available through the Social Security Administration.
Different eligibility requirements apply when it comes to Social Security disability benefits when compared to benefits through the Veterans Administration. Accordingly, it is important for veterans to not only know what these different requirements are, but what the different process is for obtaining the different benefits.
In order to be eligible for Social Security disability benefits, a person must be unable to do substantial work because of his or her medical conditions. The medical condition also must have lasted, or be expected to last, at least one year or result in death.
A person who is on active status and receiving military pay is not necessarily barred from obtaining Social Security disability benefits. However, the acceptance of different kinds of benefits could impact other kinds of benefits.
Accordingly, it is important for veterans in need of benefits to get a complete picture of all the kinds of benefits that may be available, as well as how those different kinds of benefits relate to one another. By doing so, veterans can get the assistance they need.
