Not everyone in Georgia loves their jobs, but they still need to go in order to earn income and support themselves and their families. Without the income making ends meet each month would be difficult. That is why when people are injured or become ill and are unable to work, not only does the injured people suffer, but their families could suffer as well. However, people who are unable to work due to injuries and illnesses may be able to receive Social Security Disability (SSDI) to help ease some of the financial burden.

There are a number of requirements that must be met before people may be eligible for SSDI benefits though. It has to be a long-term injury or illness and prevent the person from doing more than just their job along with other requirements. If people do meet these requirements they may be entitled to SSDI benefits, but their benefits alone may not be enough to also be able to pay for the entire family’s needs.

However, the family of people receiving SSDI may also be entitled to benefits as well. The beneficiaries’ spouses, children and disabled children may be entitled to benefits as well. Each family member could be entitled to up to 50% of the amount of the beneficiary’s benefit amount. There is a cap though for the entire family which is generally between 150% – 180% of the benefit received by the beneficiary. Depending on how many family members apply, each family member’s individual benefit may be reduced to keep the total family benefit below the cap.

People in Georgia become ill or injured every day. Most of the time the injuries and illnesses are not severe and people recover relatively quickly. Unfortunately this is not always true though and sometimes people are forced to miss work while they recover. These people and their families may be entitled to SSDI benefits though which can help ease the financial burdens of not being able to work. It is important applications are filled out correctly though and experienced attorneys may be able to guide one through it.
