How to receive VA benefits for car and adaptive equipment

Many people in Georgia drive vehicles almost every day. People need to drive to work, to entertainment, to get their children to school and activities, go to the store and for many other reasons. Being able to drive makes doing all of these things much easier, and in some situations; it may be essential in order to complete all the activities they would like to complete. People may take being able to drive a vehicle for granted, but many individuals are physically unable to drive a vehicle.

Some these individuals are veterans who made big sacrifices for their country and were injured during their service. Veterans who find themselves in this unfortunate position may be able to receive VA disability benefits to help pay for adaptive equipment so they can drive a vehicle and enjoy the same benefits as others who drive every day.

Veterans, who were injured while in the service could receive a one-time payment of up to $21,058.69 to use towards the purchase of a specially equipped vehicle to allow them to be able to drive. Injured veterans may also be able to receive grant money to add adaptive equipment to a vehicle, such as lift equipment.

However, in order to be able to potentially receive these benefits, the veterans must meet certain requirements. The veteran must have certain physical impairments that prevent them from driving. These impairments include loss or permanent loss of one or both hands or feet; decreased vision to 20/200 or less with glasses on or reduction of peripheral vision to 20 degrees or less in the better eye; severe burns; ALS or Ankylosis.

There are many advantages to being able to drive a vehicle in Georgia and with today's technology veterans with disabilities can still drive. However, paying for the vehicles and the adaptive equipment can be difficult as the vehicles can be expensive. Veterans may be able to receive VA disability benefits though which can help pay for the extra costs. Experienced attorneys understand the importance of these benefits and could guide one through the process.
