Back pay for SSD benefits during claims process

People’s lives in Georgia can change in an instant. People cannot predict everything that will occur in their lives. There are many unexpected things that occur, some of them are good and some are bad. One of the bad things that can occur and change lives is a serious injury or illness. These things can happen instantly and have a major effect on people’s lives immediately. The effect includes their ability to work and earn an income. Not having income can lead to a number of other problems as well.

People who find themselves in this situation may be able to receive Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits though, which can, at least, help with the financial struggles one may experience after a serious injury. However, in order to obtain these benefits, people must apply for them, and it can take months before they actually begin receiving the benefits, depending on if they must appeal initial determinations and other factors. During this period of time, people are still not receiving income though.

If they ultimately start receiving SSD benefits though, they can receive back pay for the time from the date they applied until the date they actually start receiving the benefits. This is usually paid in a lump sum payment when they also start receiving monthly benefits. The total amount of the back pay will be calculated by multiplying the monthly benefit the person is ultimately given, multiplied by the number of months between filing and receiving benefits.

Many people suffer injuries in Georgia each year, and the injuries can instantly change their lives. In addition to the medical procedures that may be needed and the physical problems they experience, they may also lose income as well, if they are unable to work. People may be able to receive SSD benefits though, to at least ease the financial hardships.
