VA taken to task by judge for making vets' lives difficult

People who have served our country often find it necessary to apply for some type of assistance from the Department of Veterans Affairs. While these veterans' benefits should in theory be available to all who need them, at times it is not always as simple as it should be. Recently a federal judge reprimanded the VA for denying some veterans of their due-process rights.

Some doctors still not able to accommodate disabled patients

The Americans with Disabilities Act was a milestone piece of legislation when it was signed into law. Businesses, the government and other organizations were suddenly required to make allowances for people with disabilities to put them on a more level playing field with the general public.

Continued delays make applying for veterans' benefits frustrating

Veterans in Georgia who are eligible for disability payments as a result of their military service have discovered lately that it's been an agonizing process to receive veterans' benefits. Politicians in Washington want to know when the Department of Veterans Affairs will finally be able to show improvement in the way it compensates veterans who are disabled. Officials had hoped a new computer system would help -- but, perhaps emblematic of the agency's struggles, it failed to work when officials tried to show it off to Congressional staff members recently.

Man's struggle to obtain SSDI benefits shows value of assistance

People who are disabled for various reasons are glad to have the system of Social Security disability benefits that we have in this country. It can be a godsend for those who are not able to work consistently because of their illnesses or injuries. However, it is not guaranteed someone will be able to get approved for benefits on their first attempt.

Disabled persons getting hiring help nationwide

For a person who has been suddenly stricken with a disability, a great number of unexpected and previously assured parts of life can quickly be called into question. In addition to worry over household income, applying for and possibly appealing for Social Security Disability benefits, and the road to a medical recovery, those with a disabling disease or injury often must be forced to reevaluate completely change their occupational situation and sometimes even reenter the job market.
