Spring means active people, potential for injuries

The signs of spring are all around us, and while many people embrace the change of seasons and the warmer weather that comes with it, it also means that people will be more active while enjoying their outdoor recreational activities.

Whether you are into hiking, biking or playing in sports, there is always the risk of an injury. While a majority of injuries that happen are generally minor, there is always the risk of a serious or catastrophic injury.

When a victim is faced with a debilitating injury such as a spine, neck or brain injury, it may affect a person’s ability to work. The Social Security Administration has multiple programs in place to help protect Americans who are facing serious injuries and are unable to work.

However, the application process is not easy. In fact, nearly two-thirds of all who apply are initially denied. In order to receive either the Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplemental Security Income program, applicants must prove that they have a disability that is expected to last at least a year or is expected to end in death. Applicants must also show that the injury, illness or mental condition is serious enough that they are unable to maintain gainful employment. It may be in your best interests to speak with a law firm familiar with Social Security Disability benefits for injuries to see whether you qualify and to learn the best way to proceed to maximize your chance of being approved to receive benefits.
