There are many things that can affect people’s lives in Georgia. It could be circumstances that are out of their control or within their control. Things, like changes in employment, having a child, losing a loved one and many other circumstances, can have major effects. One of these other circumstances that affect people’s lives are illnesses. These affect people’s ability to perform certain tasks, their ability to work and can also affect their financial situation.

Most of the time, when people think about debilitating illnesses, they may think about the illnesses that affect people physically, such as cancer. However, mental illnesses can be just as debilitating and prevent people from doing certain activities just like an illness that affects people physically. They can also prevent people from working, which can have a major effect on people’s ability to meet their monthly needs. One of these mental illnesses is depression.

People who suffer from depression could be entitled to Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits though, which can help them financially. But, people must meet the requirements in order to receive these benefits. People must have at least five symptoms of depression, such as diminished interest in all activities, weight changes, decreased energy, suicidal thoughts, sleep disturbance and others. They also must have extreme limitation in two of the following: understanding and remembering information, interacting with others, concentration and an ability to adapt.

Many people in Georgia suffer from depression. It can be a very serious problem that has major effects on their daily lives. This includes being able to work. People who meet the requirements may be able to receive SSDI benefits though to help them with the financial struggles that come with the depression. It can be a complicated process though.
